A wiki is a website that allows multiple users/visitors to create and edit the web content using a type of wiki software. Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia, is a collaborative wiki created and edited by many users. A Wiki should have a clear purpose and guidelines for the participating visitors and/or multiple users. The WIKI is considered a quick way for many different authors to collaborate on a project together because it allows the multiple users and in most cases anyone to edit, delete and modify the web pages by just using the EDIT link. Some wikis restrict who can create and edit while allowing read-only access to others searching the web. tig.lsc.gov/techglossary.php
WHY IS IT CALLED A WIKI AND HOW DID IT GET ITS NAME?
"A Wiki enables documents to be authored collectively in a simple markup language using a web browser. "Wiki wiki" means [?] in the [?] language, and it is the speed of creating and updating pages that is one of the defining aspects of wiki technology" www.assessnet.org.uk/mod/glossary/view.php
